It would be just perfect to have possibility to map some TV remote keys for everybody who wants to use just the TV remote control expecially for:
-showing the home screen without having to quit all the menus
-simplifying typing in the and erasing from virtual keyboard
and much more...
1. No user installed addons are supported, python or otherwise.
2. No, they really are not supported.
3. They are not coming back
4. Read from 1. again

Re: Keymap - customize remote control
I think (well, hope) that this will get better with tvOS 9.2 since they're adding Bluetooth keyboard support. Hopefully people could connect a Bluetooth Keyboard or a remote like the new Logitech remotes, and do more things than we currently can with the limited remote support on the Apple TV.

Re: Keymap - customize remote control
Mapping the keys is a basic feature, I don't think it requires python and for those of us who use our FTV remote it would be nice to be able to customize the keys the way we want them. instead of suggesting that we need to buy a $400 remote rather than fixing the code.

Who suggested you buy a $400 remote?

Re: Keymap - customize remote control
I admit I've been a little frustrated with MrMC for what I will call missing critical functions thus my comment came off a little more curse than I wanted. There is a disconnect that I had not made clear, one of the limitations (I think of it as an feature Wait does that mean I work for Microsoft (I don't BTW)) of the FTV is that it uses a RF remote not IR, last I looked the RF logitech remotes they run from $299 - $399 it's been a whileat pricing them, so for all of that, I'm sorry.
My point is remote clutter is always an issue the resolution is not hardware, if the code were corrected or completed additional hardware would not be needed.
With deepest Regrets if I insulted you
(No I'm not being sarcastic)

We do listen to requests, the AFTV is less than a month out and was added quickly. Just give us a little time
Keymapping is not there on tvOS because the xml's are vectored into a special, persistent storage. On fireOS, things are more standard.

While I would love one of those Harmony Elites (that are around $300), there's regularly sales on the lower end Logitech Hubs with RF and Bluetooth in 65-80 range. Granted those don't have a screen on the remote so they're definitely not as good, but they have the same functionality.Nunyafb wrote:...last I looked the RF logitech remotes they run from $299 - $399 it's been a whileat pricing them
Now when MrMC will let me use a Bluetooth keyboard on the Apple TV so I could use that remote to do more things.... Who knows. They've been really good at working on requests and enhancing what's there, you just have to give them some time to figure it out.
