SmbX isn't working for me so I'll have to go back to using SMBUp. It won't accept my username and password. It gives no message, it just goes right back to a blank window to re-enter everything.
Is there a way to enable guest access like with SMBUp so I don't need a username and password? I tried using my full name and short name and neither one worked. I'm been extra careful that my password is right. On my Mac, I had File Sharing enabled, I have folders shared and I'm one of the users who can read and write to it.
Is it okay that SMBUp is still installed but just not turned on?
Just an update. I found that disabling SMBx (and turning off libdsm), and then re-linking to my video library using SMBUp, was the only way to fix various issues that suddenly surfaced.
The issues:
- Pressing the Play/Pause button and then pressing play again (after about two minutes) meant that MrMC shut down completely.
- The alternate system of "pausing" by pressing Menu and returning to the home screen, and then resuming play on a given video, resulted in the video not playing at all. And no other videos would play.
- Trying to update library (at that point) produced a "compressing database," but nothing else, and this did NOT allow my videos to play again until update library eventually worked (by repeated attempts to initiate that function).
These are obviously major issues, and I'm not sure why they surfaced. However, after disabling SMBx, the issues were still present (at first). That's when I realized that I had left "libdsm" on, even though I had returned to SMBup. Once I turned libdsm off (and was back fully using SMBUp), things seem to be back to normal. I may be missing something, but it seems to me that the "libdsm" function is just not maintaining a proper connection, whereas SMBup is.
My set-up is straightforward: iMac (with latest version of OSX) connected to external drive with video files. Apple TV connecting via strong WiFi signal to that iMac and hence the files.
To amet: I tried following your instructions for manual logs, but I may not be understanding them. Am I supposed to paste that "code" into a Safari URL field?
libdsm is wip(tm) , there are bound to be corner cases and the "long pause -> crash on play" is certainly one of them. This one did not show up under testflight'ing. Our bad but this is exactly why we kept the previous libsmbclient

My setup is nearly identical - iMac 27 inch, late 2013 - except I'm on a wired connection. I wonder if there is an issue with SMBUp not being completely off because I turned it off and when I closed the app it said "SMB appears to be off, are you sure" and I clicked to Quit anyway. Yet when I opened SMBUp again, it was turned on still.

To be clear: my iMac is a wired connection (to the internet), whereas my Apple TV is not (it uses my WiFi network).
Also: I have disabled SMBUp (just yesterday, temporarily) and it definitely was off when I restarted the app. (I have since turned it back on and am using it.)
jabohn: Given my experience, if I were you, I would stick with SMBUp for now for MrMC, leaving libdsm off.
