Deleting

Post by magnoman »

Hi
I have a synology Nas that i share with plex.
I cant get a delete function on the context menu in file manager or normal mode.
Is it possible to delete from shares.
I have also set it in the settings section so it can delete.
thanks

unfortunately not, we have opted to not allow deleting from plex and emby servers at this stage... risks with loosing library items is way to large, we have warnings but that never counts after the user removes something accidentally.

So how about making it an option like kodi does that way its upto the user.
i have to use 2 programs one to watch and one to delete seems weird.

I would love to see this too. Right now I have to manage a MySQL library alongside my Plex library just so that I can delete my recorded shows.

We have debated this a lot and general consensus is that we do not like to delete it as things might go wrong... in general, we don't provide the content and we don't like to delete it, things go wrong and despite warnings I have seen users delete multiple items accidentally.

Valid point. It just makes MrMC much less useful as a DVR player.

Just please please don't remove the delete functionality from the standard MrMc (kodi) library. Otherwise I'd be forced to use the Plex client...and I much prefer MrMC over Plex client.

I agree that having a delete function within the Plex client would be very useful.

I tend to delete most videos after watching. This means that it is extremely inconvenient to use the MrMC Plex client because I need to manually keep track of files to delete and then remember to delete them later. This means that I generally don't bother with MrMC's Plex client. It's an extremely inconvenient workflow.

The argument that things might go wrong seems to be odd:
  • If I use a standalone Plex client, I can delete library media files.
  • If I use the MrMC "Kodi client", I can delete library media files.
  • If I use the MrMC Plex client, I can't delete library media files.
Control over whether or not Plex clients can delete files is on the Plex server. Isn't that sufficient precaution?

The only way we would allow this (to keep bad things from happening) is to only allow single item delete. No deleting of entire folders or roots.

That would be perfect for me. I normally delete the recording immediately after I watch it so its always single item anyways.
