I have almost 400 movies on my NAS drives that are feeing MrMC on my AppleTV 4. I have to manually refresh some of the icons/posters. When I do and I think they're all done, next time some of those same files are back to showing what looks like a clip from the movie file.
I have a 32 gig Apple TV 4. It shows plenty of memory available.
What can I do to keep the movie graphics saved?
1. No user installed addons are supported, python or otherwise.
2. No, they really are not supported.
3. They are not coming back
4. Read from 1. again
Any mention of illegal streaming sites, addons or any pirated material will not be tolerated. This is not democracy and any offenders will be banned and posts deleted immediately without warning.

Once you are happy with the thumbs, you can export database as individual files ... that will copy all thumbs, fanart .. etc next to the video file .

we keep settings saved as all we have is 500kb per app on tvOS, no way to save thumbs there.
if you back them up, and OS deletes cache, MrMC will just pull them up from the network folder without re-downloading from internet source

I am sorry, but we have zero control over what Apple TV OS will delete... and with only 500kb for storage we keep settings saved and thumbs need to be recreated.
We unfortunately have no control over what Apple does, and as much as that seems unreal and unbelievable, we have no leverage in telling them how to run the business.
If Apple changes their policy to allow us to have permanent storage like in iOS, or how Amazon has it in ftv , we would not have this issue.... until then, best we can do is to recreate the thumbs when it happens.

It would seem to me that if you are running code to create a thumb from the video file (or extract one etc) and not using a placeholder file that exists already..
A tweak to the code to check for a local thumbnail stored beside the file would do the trick (as part of the function that would extract the image from the video file)
A better long term solution would be a toggle to avoid caching the images locally to the device and always reading them from the media folder if you have a large collection.
These are fairly modest changes and could possibly be implemented upstream in Kodi (or if you implement them then passing them upstream for them to adopt to the larger project would be great as this is not just an issue with MrMC it affects all fairly low memory setups even on x86 SDcard/SSD installs)

Good idea. And I do have all the icons, posters, etc., in the folder with the media file. Which is one reason its a little frustrating. The images are THERE for crying out loud.
