Remote issues

Post by jabohn »

Hi everyone! It's great to finally be using MrMC!

The first thing I noticed though was remote usage. It doesn't support tapping the edges (I think mentioned earlier already) but I also find it very hand to manage with one hand. It's as though it's not sensitive enough. Holding the remote with one hand and using my thumb to swipe often results in an unintended motion (left instead of down, for example). I found I have to hold it with one hand and swipe with the other hand and make sure I'm swiping across the entire surface to get the desired motion.

Also sometimes it makes the clicking noise but isn't actually moving the selection at all.

Anyone having this trouble?

Yeah. Me too.

Makes it pretty hard to navigate stuff, especially given all other apps support this.

Edge tap is on my todo, it will come

You are swiping in the desired direction? Swipe and hold for fast scrolling in big lists

Yes, I find that swiping often doesn't go in the direction I meant it to. It seems like it wants a longer swipe which is easier to do with 2 hands.

Also I just discovered that the Play button isn't playing videos. I have to click the main button instead.

Thanks for the swipe and hold tip.

For me the same. I guess following the rest of the Apple TV Apps, it should be that a longer swipe is going down for more then one item and a short swipe is going down just one item.

For me it happens in List Views for example, that when I go down I land on the scrollbar or on the side menu.
I guess a lot of those things can be adjusted through changing the skin (reorder the elements).
Mean if there is no side menu or scrollbar in the list, then u cant land there.
In the Computer App of Apple itself, this also happens in their list, that it changes between "unwatched"/"by name" and I don't know what the third tab is in their list now.

If I am in the system keyboard page, while for example adding a share, everything is as it should be.

Hope I can help to improve the remote handling. Just tell em what more information you need.

Improving remote handling is very high on the list.

Most of Apple's guide lines for it are more game driven than our type of app. So, we made several judgement calls that might not have been the best ones. Still, given that we only had real physical ATV4s when it was released to the public, I think we did an ok job. Other apps had physical ATV4s a full month before we did.

Great that you are working on it :)

And considering u did'n have one while developing, you did an awsome job on remote control handling.

Thanks for your support and this great App

I'm totally stoked that the app is in fact here so I can live with some shortcomings. I have ditched 2 boxes and now have one... I kept an old ATV1 with OpenELEC installed plus and ATV3 for several years! I sold both of them now!

Hi!

I´ve not used MrMC in depth, but sometimes when i´m not in the main menu and press menu button of the remote to go back, it directly exits to tvOS. Is it just me?

Thank you.

the menu button works like the old apple remote on ATV 2 and 3. if you hold it too long, it will take you to the apple tv home screen, similar to the home button on the new apple remote.
