Newbie here.
I have ATV4 and have just added MrMC to it as an app.
I have a few .MKV files ripped from BDs on an external USB drive, in a shared folder. The USB drive hangs off my main PC, which runs Windows 7. The ATV4 and the PC are on the same network.
I am struggling with how to get MrMC to "see" the .MKV files/folders.
Within MrMC, Settings/File Manager gets me to A Root and B Root with the option to Add Source under each.
Click "Add Source" and I can browse the paths for the media locations.
I have Network File System (click on that and I get nothing), UPnP Devices (click on that and I get a list of my Sonos components, and WIndows Media Player icons for my PC and my laptop, neither of which go any further if I click on them) and Zeroconf Browser (click on that and I get nothing). And Add Network Location, but quite what I'm supposed to enter there I don't know.
If I go to Videos/Files/Add Files in MrMC, I get the same list with the Addison of SAP Streams and a blue Video Playlists folder icon. Again, clicking on those gets me nowhere.
In Settings/Services I have enabled "Use libdsm for smb servers" to no avail.
Any ideas?
1. No user installed addons are supported, python or otherwise.
2. No, they really are not supported.
3. They are not coming back
4. Read from 1. again

Have you right clicked, the Windows 7 pc, the hard drive and enabled it to be shared on the network?

Re: Newbie question - couldn't be more basic
Hmm. No success so far.
In the Add Network Location dialogue:
Server name: I enter 192.168.0.XX, which is the IP address on my network of the PC holding the folder I'm aiming for
Shared folder: I enter <computer name>/<drive letter>/<path to folder>
That produces a entry on the Browse for new share list which is smb://192.168.0.XX/<computer name>/<drive letter>/<path to folder>
Enter the user name and password for the PC and I get a message saying MrMC is unable to connect;,couldn't retrieve directory information.
The drive and all the sub folders on it down to the target folder are set to be shared with everyone.
Ideas/suggestions?
ETA; dumb question. Do I need Kodi running on my PC? Because I don't have it at the moment.
