Also, please verify that the samples also show the same issue.

Re: Testing 1.0.1 (151129.1450)
Hey, finally someone who sees the same issue as me. My setup is is ATV4 => Onkyo TX-NR636 => Philips LCDTV. I played around with MKVs with AC3 or DTS in passthru, followed by AVI or MP4 with AAC or MP3 audio. If you disable passthru all is ok.noggin wrote:Just downloaded via Testflight.
Audio
Have had some audio oddities. Just switched from watching a file with AC3 audio in passthrough to a file with MP2 audio (which will need decoding). I have silence on the MP2 audio now.
You restore the sound (ATV4's GUI sound is gone as well) by:
- Toggle sound format in settings
- Or... go to sleep mode and wakeup
AFAIK switching between auto/surround/stereo doesn't help

Are we sure the A8 SoC can do 32 Mbps ? According to this Anandtech articlenoggin wrote:Blu-ray content
Playing Blu-ray m2ts stuff over a wired network using SMB shares (unRAID server). I'm getting quite a lot of dropped frames on 1080p24 stuff. 21GB for 90 minutes - so approx 32Mb/s bitrate for audio and video? Audio is DTS-HD MA, Video is VC-1.
** UPDATE **
Checked another Blu-ray, similar bitrate but 1080i25 (aka 1080/50i), but encoded with AVC/H264 and it plays a lot better. Not perfect - but a lot better.

if you record video on an iPhone 6, you get:
27 Mbps High Profile H.264 for 1080p60
17 Mbps High Profile H.264 for 1080p30
So maybe the A8 maxes out at 27 Mbps and 32 Mbps is a bit too high. Keep in mind it has to do deinterlacing as well, likely in SW.
(I suspect the MrMC devs use somehow the built-in decoding HW in the A8)

Re: Testing 1.0.1 (151129.1450)
there is an issue with DTS-HD MA remux sometimes it appears as unknown audio sometimes it recognizes it and will play the file with the sound fine. It is luck of the draw wherther files with it will play sound. Ive also seen files with audio unknown AC3.
Also I have a seperate issue if I am playing a live tv channel with pvr stalker and i exit out for afew seconds then go back into mrmc the picture plays but no audio so i have to stop live channel start again.

Re: Testing 1.0.1 (151129.1450)
Why would you release an STB with an appstore if devs can not use hardware accelerated video decode ? Some decisions from Apple I can't understanddavilla wrote: BuzzBoth APIs that can handle hardware decode are marked 'prohibited' in TVOS. Go figure ? But A8 has some real ponies behind it so we do everything via software decode. Based on our tests, we are not seeing any issues, even with high bitrate h264. I'm waiting on samples from noggin to see what the real issue might be.
Does this mean there is hope for H.265 as well ? I didn't try it yet...
