remove scrollbars from MrMC skin

Post by jabohn »

I think the scrollbars could safely be removed from the MRMC (Confluence) skin. They just end up getting accidentally selected with the Siri remote and really only serve the purpose to show you that there's more content in the list. It would also clean up the interface a bit.

Or if not remove them, just make them unselectable if possible.

Removing them removes how some people navigate through large libraries, so no, they can't be safely removed.

Can you explain? Can't you just use the remote to scroll through?

You can, but selecting scroll bar would jump the full page instead item by item

But by the AppleTV standard, the scroll bar is unnecessary (see other apps like Plex or Infuse). Does anyone actually use it on a TV to page up and down? Technically the remote should be doing this, where a short swipe scrolls down one item and a long swipe scrolls down several. I guess once the remote behaviour matches the rest of the OS then then scroll bars can go.

I'm not sure how relevant this is, but I'd bet that a lot of us are using 3rd party remotes when using Apple TV. So any result would need to accommodate all of us.

personally, I use the page up/down a lot. I have a single 'movies' directory with several hundred items in it. Page up/down is the fastest way to quickly get to what I want.

Yeah I use it way more than swiping. I actually prefer using it over swiping because it's a more controlled move through the list.

Tapping instead of swiping is also a more controlled way to move through the list.

Yes, because tapping my way through 600 movies one at a time is so much fun.
