Best live tv and PVR solution

Post by citivolus »

I am looking to add the ability to watch live tv (OTA only), have a detailed EPG, and schedule and watch recordings. Ideally there would be no annual fee for the guide data.

What is the best combo of hardware and plugins that people have found in combination with MrMC?

I have a hauppauge card, use nextpvr with zap2xml for EPG. MrMC has the nextpvr plugin available. Works great for me.

I'll preference this with a warning that I'm going to recommend another Apple TV app that isn't MrMC, but mean no disrespect to MrMC since it's amazing in it's own right.

I have two HDHomeRun Prime's, and they're the best when matched up with the Channels app. Their beta also works amazing with the HDHomeRun DVR Kickstarter. Downside is the Channels app costs $25 (up from $15) and the HDHomeRun DVR Kickstarter cost $60 to get into, but it looks like it'll be $30 a year when it's released. The plus side to all that is that I've returned all my cable boxes and just use Apple TV's (not counting the Raspberry Pi's and NUC for 3D and 7.1 surround when wanted) so it's saving me $50 a month.

But they also work well with NextPVR (ran that for a little bit) and mythTV (ran that for a LONG time). Record to a folder and then point MrMC at that for records, and use the HDHomeRun PVR plugin and you'll get live TV and the ability to watch your DVR content.

Hi,
I use a HDhomerun + TVheaded on a Segate GoFlex Net....a 10$ NAS wich was hacked with Archlinuxarm!
(http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5 ... goflex-net)

I runs ok, some gliches some time, but seems connected to MrMC as I do not see it on Kodi/VLC at PC!

I have one turner on TVheadend and the other associated to Channels........! Then I use MrMc mainly for recording/movies center!
