Hi there,
i'm currently using LibreElec with KODI 17.6. for playing my 3D content on a raspberry Pi 3
The movies i have are MKVs either named as
[moviename].3D.HTAB (for overunder movies) or
[moviename].3D.HSBS (for side-by-side movies)
The switching into the correct 3D mode for my TV and beamer works pretty fine with KODI.
I want to use my Apple TV 4 with MrMC instead now and my question is:
Does MrMC on ATV4 support this 3d mode switching as well?
I heard that the HDMI support in the ATV4 doesn't support this featoure because TVOS doesn't allow this.
Is that true?
1. No user installed addons are supported, python or otherwise.
2. No, they really are not supported.
3. They are not coming back
4. Read from 1. again

3D.HTAB and 3D.HSBS will work.
3D MVC required tvOS support as it involves signaling at the hdmi level.

So does the signaling works or not?
Sorry, but this is still not clear to me.

3D.HTAB and 3D.HSBS does not require HDMI signaling. Which is why those can work.
3D MVC does require HDMI signaling, it will not work.
(3D.HTAB or 3D.HSBS) != 3D MVC

OK. So frame packing will not work - that's what i don't need anyway.
I was asking because a colleague of mine renamed his 3D MKVs like i did and in his case it did NOT work.
With KODI on a Pi 3 his TV switches into the correct 3D mode, but MRMC doesn't.
I'm a bit confused now...

Your friend needs to start a forum post and submit a debuglog so we can see what is going on
"MRMC doesn't" is just too little information.
If you are asking if MrMC will render 3D.HTAB and 3D.HSBS correctly on tvOS, fireOS or Shield, the answer is yes.
if you are asking if MrMC will switch the HDTV into 3D mode on the tvOS, fireOS or Shield ? Then the answer is no, none of those platforms support an API for HDMI signaling.

Thank you!
Now it's finally clear and MrMC seems to be no option for me unfortunately

Sure, np. But it's more like the AppleTV4 is option for you. If it had an API to switch to 3D mode, we would do it.

Back in the days, there were aftv1 and aml tricks to signal htab/hsbs to the tv via sysfs on droid, but those are gonedavilla wrote:Sure, np. But it's more like the AppleTV4 is option for you. If it had an API to switch to 3D mode, we would do it.
