smb sharing

Hi all
I'm a long time user of XBMC on the original XBOX. One of my systems died and after some searching for a simple system to access ISO files I came across mrmc. I can download it onto my fire stick and update it without any extra steps.
Onto the problem. I haven't been able to use it due to the fact I can't access my files with smb sharing. Searching times out. With XBMC I always just searched with smb and it would find my shared drives. I am using external hard drives connected to my computer to store and access my files. I am able to access file from other computers and XBMC on the same network.
Help would be appreciated.

hi,

what SMB server are you connecting to? if its OSX or Win 10 you will need to use libdsm

Settings -> services ->SMB client -> use libdsm for smb servers

I'm using Windows 7. I tried changing setting from reading previous posts, but when I did the smb option was no longer available to browse by. I have also tried I sharing and reshaping the drives and movie folders in the drives. Restarting the computer and fire stick. Shutting off firewall.

With the way libdsm works you will need to punch in the IP address of your win server

When adding the share, look for "add network location"

Thanks for your help and patience. Found add network location. Protocol set for Windows network SMB, type in IP address of my windows 7 computer on the network as the server name. Left shared folder blank as well as user name and password. I have my network settings set up to not require them because it always gave trouble for XBMC. When I hit ok it continues to ask for username and password.

We will look into password issue, in the meantime try setting the user/pass to verify you can get the share.

Added password and user name and have connected and now working on setup. Never needed password for smb in XBMC. I'll probably have to go into my XBMC on my original Xbox and input the username and password. Maybe do that another night. Thanks again for the help. I'll be back soon with more questions I'm sure.
