official kodi remote (iOS)

official kodi remote app appears to require manually inputting AppleTV ip address:8080 to control it.
doesn't seem to show mrmc ip/appletv without that manual configuration.
Kodi remote app seems to suggest kodi port is 9090?
further experimentation:
name
ip address : 8080 / default of 9090 and hit the red save button. if it works, you'll expand to the left and see a list of categories, with remote control at the bottom giving you (mostly) controls for most of what happens.
