JellyFin Client unable to seek past the stream buffer

When streaming content on MrMc I should be able to skip or fast-forward to any section of a video clip.

Expected Result: Skipping past the buffer should continue the stream at where the video cursor location ends up.

Actual Result: Skipping past the buffer puts the video cursor at the end of the buffered content.

I uploaded a debug log: V39P1.log

How are you skipping?I see you paused it but are you trying to swipe right?

I have tried the following methods of skipping, listed below.
  1. Pause the video. Swipe to a new unbuffered location. Click play. Result: Skips to the end of the buffered content.
  2. Fast-forwarding (speed up playback) the video at 2x speed. Result: As long as the buffer keeps up, I can keep fast-forwarding. This is not depicted in the video.
  3. Fast-forwarding (speed up playback) the video at 5x speed. Result: Stops fast-forwarding once the buffer is reached. This is not depicted in the video.
Let me know if you want me to try or get you something else. I can also get you more video of the problem.

Just to clarify on 1.... you swipe right and hit play? Or swipe right and hit select(touchpad click)?

On 1: I swipe right and perform a touchpad click.

Regarding your second point: I tried swiping right and clicking play, but it just plays the stream without skipping any content.

Play will just unpause it, that’s desired behaviour.

Swipe right and touchpad click is how it should happen.

I see a load of errors in your log…

Code: Select all

CCurlFile::FillBuffer - Failed: HTTP returned error 500

I wonder if it’s somehow related, what JF version are you running? Is it local or remote server?

I am using Jellyfin 10.6.4
This is a local server running on my Windows 10 (version 20H2) machine.
This server can be connected to via my domain which is how I have MrMc connecting to it.

Let me know if you'd like to see Jellyfin specific settings.

Let me do some tests here, I can’t see what would prevent you from seeking past the buffer… never seen that issue.

Are you seeing this issue on all of the media files or just some?

Yes it happens on all media files.

My media library is a collection of TV Shows and Movies.
