EDL stall

Both iPhone and Atv4k MrMc apps stall whenever they encounter an EDL file. It will eventually skip the commercial but not after stalling for about a minute, then hear a blip of audio, then the video starts to move one frame per second for another 30 seconds or so. Only after all this will it resume playing the video file at a point after the commercial. Using iPhone 8+ and both have latest iOS and MrMc software. So it does do comskips but it is painfully slow. Any suggestions?
