Mediacodec Surface and Mediacodec HDR and SDR

Post by three6zerocool » 04 May 2019, 01:15

New question, following on from tip from Davilla.

Ok, with Surface codec mode disabled, I lose HDR on my 4K movies, but gain brightness and contrast controls to be able to adjust white and black clipping on SDR content.

With Surface codec mode enabled, I get back HDR, but am back to square one in regards to procamp brightness and contrast adjustment.

My question, can we have both...?
ie, Surface for HDR and Mediacodec for SDR.

I think you implemented something similar that allowed this on AppleTV4k?

SOLVED: Mediacodec Surface and Mediacodec HDR and SDR

Okay, finally worked out how the Mediacodec settings work.

Have never used SPMC before, so just had it on default settings, which seem to use Surface Mode for everything.
Now just have surface mode enabled for my 4k movies, and Mediacodec for everything else, and I then get HDR on 4k, and brightness/contrast controls on SDR content.
