1080p resolution not available when connected to Sony A9F OLED

Post by omohat » 08 Feb 2019, 18:31

In MrMc settings, the only resolutions available to me are 2160p and 720p - 1080p is missing for some reason.

My Shield is running the latest software 7.2.2 and connected to the Sony A9F via a HDMI 2.0 cable. The Shield itself is set to 2160p@59.67hz but 1080p is available in the Shield settings so why is not showing in MrMc? 4k content plays fine with HDR so I'm sure it's not a problem with my cable.

The reason I want to set MrMc to 1080p is to allow for automatic resolution switching between 720p/1080p and 4k content to let my TV handle the upscaling rather than use the Shields terrible upscaling.

Any ideas why 1080p resolution isn't available in MrMc - or anything I can do to make it appear again?

I see the same thing but it will indeed switch to 1080p for me.

So the only two resolutions you see in settings are also 2160p and 720p - which resolution have you selected?

And just to confirm when you play 720p, 1080p or 2160p content, MrMC automatically switches to the correct resolution based on the content being played so that the TV handles the upscaling?

Yes.

I haven't changed any of those settings and it looks like it's at 2160p right now. You should be able to see what resolution the shield is outputting by looking at what your receiver is passing through or at some info in your TV.

Thanks - I'll leave it at 2160p for now and check what resolution it's outputting when I play 720p and 1080p content - I'd just assumed it wouldn't switch the resolution down from 2160p.

Hopefully I'll find the same results as you.

Confirmed. Thanks for your help.

Even though I've got 2160p selected as resolution, MrMc is switching to the correct resolution for the content being played (whether that is 720p, 1080p or 2160p), therefore allowing the TV to upscale where necessary.
