Guide on creating your own ssl certificates for plex here. The problem is not weakness of the certificate though, isn't it the fact that you hand over username and password to the plex middle man server? I don't believe plex allows you to connect directly to your home server like Emby does?

So I'll keep using Plex externally, until SSL Emby connection for MrMC is fixed. I believe the Emby setup is more secure as only I know the dns and username and password, and once I connect to the https dns username and passwords are encrypted and don't go through other servers who require them to be decrypted.

I wonder if the cloudflare setup you got working has security weaknesses, that is an attractive altrenative as well

You misinterpreted the issue. Manual sign-in for the Emby Client service is ONLY broken in MrMC 3.7.1 when:
1) Emby server 4.x, setup with remote access DISABLED.

3.7.1 works fine with http AND https manual sign-in into Emby server when:
2) Emby server 4.x, setup with remote access ENABLED.

MrMC 3.8.0 is fixed for (1), so if you are not a Testflight user for MrMC 3.8.0, than 3.7.1 works just fine for your https login, when condition (2) is in place for your Emby server setup

That's a question you have to ask on Emby forum.

But for now I like the Cloudflare dashboard, with lots of options, even for a free account, where for example you can create 5 free firewall rules, where you can block access on all kind of levels, like GEO IP, to block all access to your domain (and your server), from outside your country.

Also, when a user queries your Emby domain, they only get to see a Cloudflare IP and not your WAN IP of your Emby server.

Upgraded Emby server, no change.
I can login, MrMC reports I'm logged in (sign-in is now sign-out), but only MrMC and plex appear as server options.

No, I have not been accepted in yet. I tested the standard release from my android phone, I can also test it from an ipad or an Apple TV to see if it makes any difference. I am a paid subscriber on the apple TV and on the FireTVs. Much more stuttering on the FireTVs, had to disable hardware acceleration. Solid as a rock on the Apple TV. Love it.

Https access on 3.7.1 works on tvOS and iOS in my Cloudflare setup. If it doesn’t work, you can check in webbrowser, if you get https acces to the Emby login page of your Emby server.

I'm not using cloudflare. I create my own certificate with letsencrypt and connect via my own duckdns domain. No problems connecting remotely via the Emby app, or Kodi using EmbyCon.
If I type the https address in the browser, it does not redirect me it gives me a page with the message "Welcome to our server

So you are saying you can't access your Emby server remotely via a web browser over https and arrive on the Emby log-in page, right ?
