Hi,

New user on the AppleTV4.
Trying to add video sources via SMB (connected seemingly to same workgroup where my media files are) but getting consistent timeout.
Any ideas?
The files are hosted on a Windows 8 PC which is located on same workgroup.

Try to add the source by manually typing the server IP address, login and password in "Add network location"

No luck. Still getting timeout.

Tried to restart your SMB server?

I assume you mean the Windows 8 PC in this case? That would be the SMB server?

That's right.

Also, check that your firewall is not blocking the access from the Apple TV.

There is no special firewall beside the standard windows firewall and in any case, if the Pie can access SMB, the appletv should as well.

P.S. access via upnp works fine.
