MrMC

I used to use MythTV, but recently got a cheap HP server and installed unRaid on it. I installed the SageTV docker container along with the one for OpenDCT (basically, a program needed to interface SageTv with the HD Homerun Prime). It's working well, recording shows (.ts files), but the Android client seems a bit buggy on my Shield TV. Sometimes it works fine, other times not so much. I did use SageTV to re-encode a video as a standard MPEG file (at 480).

I can point the Plex Server in Shield to my NAS share holding these videos and play them in the Plex client, but it's not working with DirectPlay, so it's transcoding, which isn't the experience I would want either.

I bought Mr.MC in the Play store (already bought the FireTV and AppleTV versions). In both Kodi and Mr.MC, I can map the drive, but can't play the .ts files, though I can play the converted .MPEG file.

Are there different forms of .ts files?

xxx.ts means the container is a transport stream. What formats are inside the container is another story.

When in doubt, I always use MediaInfo (google for it) to tell me the details. And yes, MrMC can handle xxx.ts files.

Using the HDHomeRun PVR client, MrMC can access the HD Homerun Prime directly, livetv only though. I have one here.

The Plex Client in MrMC does not permit the Plex Server to transcode unless you specifically enable it in the Plex Client settings. That was the whole point the MrMC Plex Client, playback without transcode using the audio and subtitles contained in the original media container.

In our experience, there is no need to map the drive using smb/nfs/etc. Just play it via MrMC's Plex client. It's capable much higher bandwidth than either smb or nfs. I've almost moved over from smb/mysql (on a QNAP) to a Plex Server (also on QNAP). I have another Plex Server on a much faster box (linux/i7) for testing.

I know it should be able to - I've used it with MythTV with this HD Homerun Prime.

I posted on a SageTV forum about it and I am now under the understanding that the docker I'm using lets SageTV do the remuxing, which it apparently isn't great at if the stream is poorly constructed (which is common from some cable companies, apparently). He suggested that I make some settings changes that will use FFmpeg for this function instead, and that I should have a better experience with that....

And I did go ahead and get a copy of MediaInfo, and here is what it says about one of these files:
