Atmos is only supported if the app uses a HLS streaming.
Maybe it is possible to read data from a NAS by a built in server kind of faking HLS, so you can use the built in Dolby MAT encoder.

Hey Davilla, does or will MrMC support HLS streaming any time soon? I'm currently contemplating moving my ATMOS amp upstairs out of my HT room because it doesn't get much use, but I'll only do that if the ATV4K will be able to output it. (HT room has a HTPC so no dramas with audio output). Cheers!

So i can play atmos now? or do you mean that mrmc could work with HLS if you eneble it?

If you are looking to get
passthrough atmos by changing to HLS, forget it. that won't work as the HLS has to be played via the Apple avplayer. MrMC uses it's own internal player.
