So the minions at their Appstore app approval department don't have a spellingschecker ? Unbelievable.
More amazing, MrMC is now the #1 for paid apps, #1 for top grossing apps.
I see a lot of whining here, but people shouldn't forget the amazing effort the devs pulled off in 4-6 weeks by
stripping and fixing a messy code base, which never would result into an app meeting Apple's rules, into something
which actually works. It's an 1.0 version people, it will only get better. The devs also have to fight Apple's tooling
and API choices. I'm still amazed hardware accelerated decode is not supported in tvOS.
Still, I would recommend to extend the beta group beyond the 15 (I think it was) for the next release. My biggest wishes for 1.0.2:
- Passthru and decode of TrueHD and DTS-MA
- Better compatibility for (e.g. Harmony) IR remotes. In my case, I have mapped the fwd and ffwd etc buttons correctly on my Harmony Ultimate, but MrMC doesn't response. Workaround is to hit select and do it via the on-screen buttons.
- A quit button like on Android. However, it might be against Apple's rules which probably demand that apps stay inactive in memory when you go back to the home screen.
- Recently played files shown on top of the home screen .. if you you put MrMC in your top 5 apps.
- Not sure if the Kodi code-based is holy, but we need something else instead of the confusing levels for settings. It's very hard first-time to figure there are expert-level settings. Personally I would skip the levels and make expert default.
- Improved SMB access. Think I already mentioned this, if a NAS starts slow (e.g. out of sleep mode) you are bombarded with errors/warnings until the connection is made.
- Just plain unencrypted ISO support, up to UDF 2.6 ? You might run into a can of worms here, with menu's. If in doubt I would take the longest title (usually main movie) or allow you to skip back and forth between titles. For BD-like ISOs, you could just play the BDMV directory.
- I have no problems with the Kodi-like (XBMC) UI. I even hate the fuzzy gray UI from Infuse, Nastify etc. It's much denser and faster than the others. If you are willing to change (going to change), I would start to give the settings a re-thought.
- For HD formats, please make a choice between: 1) decode audio on ATV to 7.1 PCM, 2) decode "core" audio on ATV to 5.1 PCM, 3) passthru: send core stream, 4) passthru: send full HD stream. Wrt 1) and 2) you could of course also put the speaker layout setting from Kodi back. I have 5.1 speakers, but my receiver is 7.1. I usually let the receiver do the matrix processing for speaker mapping.
