Everybody freaking out about Plex... 
Can somebody briefly describe what the advantage is about the regular/MrMC own database? Is it just the GUI why everybody is so excited?

The advantage about Plex is you have a centralized server, that can play and synchronize with all platforms and you have access to all your medias everywhere and it can play with very low bandwith.eazytv wrote: 15 Mar 2018, 07:16 Everybody freaking out about Plex...

Personally the main reason I use Plex as the back end is that I don’t have to wait for MrMC to scan the folders for new shows/movies, wait for it to pull down the metadata, then watch the show/movie. Plex does all that on the backend so when I load up MrMC it’s already ready to go.

Well, I use Emby server, for metadata collection of all my libraries. I have Emby set up to safe the content metadata to NFO files at the same location where the content is stored.
A big advantage of storing metadata to NFO files at same location of content is, that you can backup and deploy your content folders anywhere and use software of your liking which support NFO files for showing metadata, like MrMc or Kodi, without the need for scraping metadata again for that same content. This way you are independent concerning content metadata and are not tied to a database of Kodi or MrMC, so any system with a NFO compatible mediaplayer is set up in no time, with all your available and already scraped content, when they have access to your content folders. Just like with Plex, I can have access from any location to my content with Emby.
Because Emby has an Apple TV app, which uses the native tvOS Apple player, it is pretty crippled regarding format suppor. So I'm glad that MrMC is around that I use on the Apple TV, which is rock solid with everything you throw at it.
