Bought/Installed MrMC. First impression.
Reacts horrible to the remote. Often no reaction to a selection making that one wonders whether there is really something to be selected. Similar for up/down/left/right. Often no reaction at all. This makes it very unpleasant to get all folders entered the system.
It must be related to MrMC since Infuse (and several other video explorers that I tested) showed similar problems.
I find it a pity that makers decided to use Confluence because I do not like horizontal menus; Also it would be nice if Favorites were implemented. Now I can set them but useless because they appear nowhere. At least, I cannot find it.
For the moment my conclusion: very good for a Beta but should not have been set as a paid product. The remote problems make it unsuitable for use by my grandchildren with is what the aTV is mainly used for. So for the time it will be Infuse as the default product.

Star on the home menu is favorites
Remote is high on our todo list, it will be looked at.
Also, it's an open source app you are welcome to sideload it if you don't feel like paying for it.

Stupid me. Never had the simple idea to check what was the star about. Nice solution.
I can understand that not everything is in perfect condition. it's a first release after all. Don't mind paying for a product.

Re: First impression
since this is a first release, there are much to improve.
there are many issues or missing features. but the most critical issue is usability. currently, the touch remote is almost unbearable to use. without shortcut to favorite, you have to go back to home screen from whenever you are. It can take many clicks to get back to the home screen.
Does MrMc use tvOS common API? this app controls are not consistent and so much different from other apps (netflix and youtube). For example, it does not have the following controls that are common to other apps:
1) left and right clicks to rev/ff 10 seconds.
2) swiping down to select audio and subtitle
3) swiping through a list is either unresponsive or too fast to locate items.
iphone remote app is working partially. when you are in a context menu (such as adding video source), touching the screen does not select the item. the remote app was just released today. it is understandable that it was not tested.

There is only one way to use remote, thing in MrMC and remote handling is the way the Skin is setup and the way clicks are handled.normanfox wrote:since this is a first release, there are much to improve.

As mentioned few times today, we are working on improving remote experience... Tap sides of the touch pad will act as arrow keys, and more responsive swipe has already been done...
Swipe in any direction and hold would act as long hold of a remote key and would scroll through the lists faster.
While playing a movie, swipe left/right would rew/ff
Click touchpad while playing to get the OSD and all standard controls are there.

yes, I tried to train myself to use those controls that you mentioned. however, they do not work well. if you use Netflix/youtube apps, you can definitely tell the difference between Netflix/youtube and MrMc app for basic navigation controls.amet wrote:

for example, swiping and holding in any direction are supposed to scroll faster but it is way to fast to stop where you want to.
when you swipe slowly, it is supposed to move the the next item. but sometime it does not move at all.

I have the same issues as you had with not being able to add video. How did you get it too work?normanfox wrote:since this is a first release, there are much to improve.

Using NFS, adding video directory will only display the parent directories on the NAS, then I am unable to select anything to add.
I'm a little confused that the app is not asking for username and password to the NAS in the first place?

If I'm correct then NFS does not user ID/Password. Access is controlled by the server based on IP.
Besides that. I han no problems with adding Video & Pictures but seems impossible to add Music. MrMC does not respond to locationselection.
Maybe limitation of this version?

Re: First impression
Hi,
for me most things worked as expected from my experience with Kodi on RPI2. So, congratualtions!
I have only two main issues:
- 3D from MKV is not working in SBS mode.
- passthrough audio seems to output only 5.1 not 7.1 and core Dolby/DTS. Will you support HD/TruHD Audio?

Re: First impression
Have to agree with the OP.
First impressions were kinda disappointing.
I think you really need to go back to the drawing board with the interface. Keep it simple! I think people want to browse and enjoy their media library without distraction. As much focus on cover art as possible.
The remote/swiping is indeed horrible. It feels outdated and doesn't seem to make use of the new touchpad at all. I think I saw Davilla somewhere saying he preferred the old remote and it shows.... Personally I love to familiar swiping of the new remote, with intuitive and responsive fast/slow swiping as we expect from smartphone usage. Get rid of the horrible touch & hold scrolling with accompanying 1995 clicking sound.
Not happy with the media library options either. I like to split my files up into adult / kids movies as well as tv shows and documentaries as a separate folder. This interface pushes me into having all of my movies and tv shows in a unified folder.
This would be mitigated by better use of favourites.
Favourites should be accentuated and preferably selectable as a home screen with accompanying folder art.
In general, too many visible options, too many clicks required to navigate and the whole package doesn't mesh well with the tvos. Hate to say it, but infuse is doing it way better at the moment - take a leaf from their design, it's simple and attractive. That look with the additional flourish of MrMC/Kodi would be a thing to behold
