Noob - How do I feed the library off a Plex server

Plex Server - Version 1.0.3.2461 On Windows 10 PC (EDIT: Updated to 1.2.6.2975)

So if I create a source pointing to the movies on my NAS, I can update the library and all's OK.

But it there a way to instead feed all my media (movies & TV series) from my Plex server? I can't seem to achieve it?


I've gone into the Plex Client in Services and set it up. I've tried adding a Movie source to my Plex Movies (via upnp)...

But I just don't get any movies in MrMC from Plex?


EDIT: In the Plex Service page, if I click on the "Plex Home User" line (with my user name on it), I get "Error Getting Plex Servers"?

OK... I can do that...


But first, is my expection correct? I should be able to tell MrMC to get my films from Plex and they will just appear in my Movies (& TV Series) just as if I'd pointed MrMC directi to the files on the NAS itself and scraped?

I don't instead go through some other option, like into files and select the plex folders and view the media that way?

Just want to make sure my expectations are not incorrect?


And I'm right in that I should just create a File source to uPNP Plex? And that's it?

Wiki page for plexsetup has everything you need to connect.

You are not pointing source to plex server and you are not using upnp, it's a direct connection to a server.

I did that first using my account name/passowrd on the Plex page (for MrMC)... and then used the PIN option.

If I click on my Plex Home User line, or try and enable "Plex Server GDM Directory" I get "Error Getting Plex Servers".

Does it matter that I'm a home (free) Plex member and not a paid up one? Surely as I'm only doing this locally (at home) that wouldn't matter?

note: I've used that PIN registration technique for abuot 4 other devices at home for Plex (successfully). An XBox, my Fire TV, a Roku and an LG TV.

yes, once you connect using PIN or user/pass that should list all your connections. "Plex Server GDM Directory" was reported not working on later plex server versions, use the PIN method as that seems the most stable here.

remember that we only support movies/tvshows and music at this moment, so your plex library should have that.

in your "old log" I see that it failed to get the sources, log doesnt have any of plex attempts.

no, it does not matter... if you can go to http://app.plex.tv/web/app and see your sources, you can use MrMC to stream from PMS.

yes, all plex sources will show under relevant categories, no other action is needed.

start MrMC, log out from Plex, Log in using the PIN, collect the log and upload to pastebin

my uPNP is disabled, I have no idea if it does affect PMS...

If I go to "Plex Home User" in the MrMC settings and press enter on it... it hangs now rather than giving the previous error?
