Price Poll

Post by davilla »

Up to now, we have been quiet on the topic of cost/free of MrMC on tvOS. We thought it was time to open that door. Keep in mind that we are fully supportive of Open Source and nothing will prevents someone from building and installing without going through the Apple App Store. The only thing we request is if you fork, do the right thing and rebrand.

The MrMC on tvOS will not be free, we just can’t support the infrastructure on free/donations. But we are not looking to make quick bucks and vanish either. We are in this for the long term and have far reaching plans that will take serious cash to implement. So we decided to toss it out as a poll and see what our form users think. What would you pay ?

I don't see anything strange with charging for a good app. if a higher price tag will result in a better support/features and a quicker time-to-market for new improvements I would gladly pay a decent amount! I wouldn't hesitate even at 20$. I mean, what is my alternative cost? I would need to buy another player with the functions i need and that would cost a lot more then 100$?

Go for it!

£10 to £20 is what I would call reasonable.

Would gladly pay 9.99 but voted for 4.99 because it will probably feed the masses more than double the amount.

Having used xbmc/Lodi now for many years in its various carnations on multiple platforms, I would not hesitate to pay for a version for my Apple TV4, after all, we take for granted all the good things that xbmc/Lodi has brought us over the years for free, time to give something back for all the hard work put in by the dev's.

I have used the apple tv2 version now for many many years and would gladly pay to support the future development of this app into the future.

I will gladly pay 10 euro for you. I know how much time it takes to maintain a project like this. 10 euro is probably not enough to even keep something for yourselves. Thank you very much.

I think that $5.99 has a nice ring to it.

I voted for $5.99. I would more than gladly pay $9.99 (or more) for it, but I think for it to hit "critical mass" it needs to be just a tad bit lower.

Perhaps start with a promotional price for $5.99 then raise to $9.99?

I voted for $4.99. I think most people have the perception that the Appstore is all about recently priced apps => free, few dollars.

On the other hand, Infuse Pro is also 9.99 dollar for iOS. Given the similar functionality and MrMC is even offering more, I can imagine the devs could aim for a similar price.

Just wondering, suppose the iOS/tvOS app will be a paid app, what will happen to its siblings in the Google Playstore and the OSX or Windows versions ? VLC is also on iOS and Android, but it's a strippen down version and AFAIK free. What will happen to the revenue ? Will it go to the Kodi community ?

This is a very good suggestion.
