I was going to buy an AppleTV 4K just for this program, but not being able to connect to both my backends is a deal breaker for me. Thanks for the info though.
Another thing you might want to try is making 2 profiles (separate users) in Mrmc. Then, switching users would switch to a different tv backend, assuming that you configure each user tv settings to connect to a different tv backend.

I had already suggested that. Is probably not an option for him.

Other option:
Run a 3rd backend (DVBLink, TVMosaic, TVHeadend whatever...) and import and setup your m3u playlist from those two TVHeadend backends in the 3rd one and let MrMC on your Apple TV 4K only connect to your 3rd backend if you want to use all of it, in ONE MrMC profile...

I have done 2 tvheadend backends before into MrMC... import the mux from one into the second one and add services and map channels... worked here a year or so ago
