Boblight/Ambilight clone anyone?

Post by amet »

Just a quick post to check how many/if any of you use boblight/ambilight clone. It has been integrated as core feature in MrMC now and we are doing final testing. if all is okay we will include it in next version for AppleTV/FireTV and maybe even iOS, not sure we want it on iOS but there is no technical limitation to it.

of course, you would need a boblight server on a separate machine(rpi, some routers... etc) and a LED setup with arduino to get it going, we have only included the client part that was lost once we removed python.Communication with the server is done via LAN and there is no way to plug arduino directly into AppleTV or FireTV.

more on it below....

I have white LED strips behind my TV but this seems "better"... Would probably use this after I get it setup now that I know about it.

I don't know if it's used a lot with Kodi, but don't forget Philips Hue.
If you have boblight, only the server api changes, afaik (as the addon is basically a clone of it).

Hi,

I have a Lightpack that I currently use with LibreELEC - looking to use it here as I've just bought a new ATV4.

How would I go about doing it? Seems like I need to run boblightd elsewhere - I run a RPi3 with RetroPie, or I have a 24/7 server running WHS2011.

Any guides/point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,
bc.

You should be able to run boblight on rpi3

Not sure how lightpack interacts with libreelec, if it's boblight then it should be okay.

Just digging into features with the MrMC app, and looking at doing Philips Hue LED Strip lighting around tv.

Has anyone had success using Hue with the LighEffects add in ?

Any feedback is appreciated , as its an expensive investment to buy 5 meters of lighting. thanks!

I am using boblight setup , I believe Hyperion setup is compatible with it as it can act as boblight server.

Not sure about Philips HUE , haven't tried it

thanks, and when watching movies, the delay is correct and displays close to the patterns on the screen ?

I think ill go with the Hue strip lights on the back of the tv as the quality is higher. expensive , but lots of ifttt integrations as well.
