Sorry to bump and old thread, but I'm still noticing this issue on the latest TestFlight ans TVOS 12.1 versions.
This was fixed in another app in an update at their end and is currently working correctly.

Blacks are still being clipped as per tests using these patterns:

Thanks in advance.

Nothing we can do until we move from OpenGLES to Metal for iOS/tvOS.

OK good to know. I keep forgetting to mention that HDR on my ipad pro has crushed blacks, if that's the proper term. Things just look too dark. Will look forward to changes in the future.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
Hate to ask, but how far down the roadmap is this change planned?

Migration to Metal is a major task. Not sure of time line, depends on time/resources/motivation.

An old post but thought I'd ask if there is any update you might be able to provide on the possible move to Metal?

many thanks

I mentioned this very issue in the Testflights.

It appears to be a limitation with either the AppleTV4k hardware itself, or it's firmware, as I have noticed subtle differences between firmwares.

One thing I noticed being a Sony owner myself, (Oled) is that I had to go into the sets Picture/Advanced settings, and change video level setting from Auto to Full Range, as for whatever reason, I find that my TV does not always detect video levels correctly, and keeps ending up in 16-235 instead of 0-255. You might also need to go into MrMC video/acceleration settings, and select disable limited to full rescaling.

However, on my own set and AppleTV4k, I can almost make those patterns look right, but all other content is affected. I have just accepted the fact that it is an 'Apple' thing, and not much that can be done about it, until Apple sort it out. Pretty sure MRMC is not the problem.

I have the similar issue on the Shield device at the moment (new user to that platform), but that is concerning SDR white clipping levels, so am hoping for some Davilla magic there.

Well, infuriatingly the missing detail has now jumped up to about everything below 5%. Presumably this is due to the latest firmware update for the Apple. Even more infuriating, Infuse works perfectly.

I've resorting to using an Amazon Fire Stick for all my playback now, the missing detail on HDR on the Apple is simply too much

MrMC seems to be very bad at HDR on ATV. Is Firestick 4k better? What app do you use with it?
