I just bought MrMC to be used as VDR client (iPad Pro 2018 - thus big resolution) using VNSI. When using Kodi on my mac it works like a charm:

After some seconds the audio goes silent.
UPDATE: Trying out some more, it seems that this only applies to HD channels. When streaming SD the video starts playing.
On the server side I am running ubuntu 16 with the following versions:
