judging by the WWDC , hw only on A9+ SoC’s, atv4 is an A8
we will need to setup separate dev rigs for tvOS 11 as thats heavy beta, but its something we will definitely look into.
I just installed MrMC 3.0.6 (latest TestFlight) on my iPad Air 2; starts, logs in Plex, collects the data, but doesn’t play,
P.S. do you think iOS 11 beta deserves a separate thread?
This issue deserves new thread for sure...
Try fiddling with hw acceleration settings under settings-> video-> acceleration

There are no examples on how to do h265 decode using VideoToolBox so one must figure it out. You can't just shove it in and pray
CMVideoFormatDescriptionCreateFromH264ParameterSets is used to setup for h264 hw decode, CMVideoFormatDescriptionCreateFromHEVCParameterSets does a similar function for h265. That means one big piece of puzzle is understood.

Glad they're making it more friendly. Do you think the ATV4 actually has 4k capability that's just not unlocked yet?

Just got a new 10.5" iPad. I wonder if it can play 1080p or even 4K HEVC in software. The A10X is a beast in terms of CPU power (and GPU as well).
Apple hinted towards "more news on the ATV" later this year. Could indeed be a new model supporting 4K, HDR, HDMI 2.0 and a revised iTunes store bringing 4K content.
Wouldn't be surprised either if the ATV5 gets a stripped down A10 SoC (two high power cores, dropping the lower power ones), supporting HEVC main profile incl. 10 & 12-bpp.
BTW... is it possible to output HDR10 via HDMI 1.4 on the ATV4 ? PS4 and XB1 are doing it... or is there some kind of hardware restriction (or API limit) ?
