It's 4k HDTV time

Post by davilla »

Time to update the old Westinghouse HDTV to something new. 55 inch. Must support both 24p and 23.976. 4k of course. This will also be used for development/testing.

Suggestions ?

I've heard good things about the Vizios. I went with a LG 65UH8500 since it does passive 3D as well, and I really like it.

Pulled the trigger today on a Samsung 55" UN55JS700D from Costco. Google says the UN55JS700D -> UN55JS7000.

So far, a quick poke shows 1080p24/1080p30/1080p60 are present. To check 4K, have to swap out the old Denon AVR-1912 for the new Denon AVR-3200W which can handle 4K HDMI.

Overall, pleased. But wait... Oooooo, bonus++ :)

Planning on a Samsung port now? SiliconDust just made a version of the HDHomeRun Viewer available to the 2016 Samsung TVs.

My Samsung already sees the HDHomeRun Extend (DNLA I guess). Twice in fact :)

Just a follow up, I'm very satisfied with the Samsung UN55JS700D from Costco. Does everything I want including 24p and 4k res. Even the wife commented on how nice it was.

tempting, but I'd have to upgrade receiver and BDP too. My old Vizio xvt3d554sv still has a great picture I think and I'm waiting on Oppo to make a ultra HD BD player.

it's really nice to hear you work (or plan to) on a Tizen port, I guess it involves a lot of work but also having to submit the app to Samsung? (as we cannot install app anymore from usb on latest firmwares I think)
Thanks

Hankster,

Interesting web response from Samsung. I have the 2016 65" set. What else is there to hack/use?

Creator,

Any port to the Samsung TVs?

All,

it seems Samsung destroyed the HDHomeRun support just about the time I ordered the unit. I've been looking for alternatives (hopefully idiot proof / simple) ever since. MrMC is one of these.
