Updated to the latest build and the problem still exists.

Changed the buffer settings to your recommendations and the problem still exists.

Side note I had a friend test the same file on a Fire TV and there was no playback issue (NOTE: It was Kodi, not MrMC).

My gut still says it's something with the processor on the 4th Gen; it simply can't handle it. The 4K has no playback issues.

Could be, the hw decoder is different between AppleTV 4 and 4K. It's tied to the SoC so A8 vs A10X.

Had another friend test the same file on a MiBox and it played back without an issue.

what is the bitrate of the HEVC files you're trying to play on the ATV4? near 20mbit/s it seems to stutter in my experience.

if bitrate is low, perhaps it is due to some of the more expert settings in HEVC encoding and the software decoding (of the ATV4) struggles with fringe encoding settings regardless of bitrate. Just a thought.
