I already said this is planned for a future release. We aim for 3.2 but sometimes things happen beyond our control. Like me happen to be traveling the exact day of the Apple event, and Irma planning to hit North Carolina on that exact day.

Re: H.265 on tvOS 11.0
the new ATV5 is supposed to get the A10X (today's rumours, tomorrow brings the facts); then HEVC, 1080p,10bit, almost any bit rate, will be no issue at all. The Jellyfish, HEVC,10bit,20Mbps plays really smoothly on my iPad Pro 10.5, which has the the same SoC, with all players I have (MrMC, Kodi, infuse 4.3.6, PlayeXtreme, VLC, Squire).
Probably, we will then start talking 4K where really HW decoding plays a role.

While the SoC can handle H.265 in software, it drains the battery much faster with portable devices than if it were using a hardware decoder.Everbrave wrote: ↑11 Sep 2017, 10:38 the new ATV5 is supposed to get the A10X (today's rumours, tomorrow brings the facts); then HEVC, 1080p,10bit, almost any bit rate, will be no issue at all. Re: H.265 on tvOS 11.0
I tried a “remux” of The Martian in 24.8Mbps HEVC 4K resolution, AppleTV 4K
On MrMC there are severe frame drops.
On Infuse 5 it plays perfectly. Not sure if they use hardware acceleration.
I really hate the UI of Infuse, so please make it work.

Re: H.265 on tvOS 11.0
The MrMC version you have isn't yet using the hardware of the 4k. Only testflight has it at this point. Pull up the codec info to confirm. When using hardware it'll be VTB-h265 as the decoder.

Nope, but just send you an e-mail.
I also did some testing of HEVC on GPUs for a topic @ doom9.org a while ago, so will use those files.
