Mysql with remote ftp shares?

I would like to set up a mysql database for all my kodi/mrmc boxes. Several I pads, two @tv 4 and one Mac mini.
Most of my files is stored on a remote ftp server. Is it possible to use mysql with this setup?

Tried, but could not get it to work. It there a guide for dummies setting up a mysql on a mac or a synology nas?

What all have tried? Commands, etc. would be helpful in troubleshooting with you. I have MySQL running on a Synology NAS for Kodi/MrMC and it's working great.

so you are running maria db and my php on the synology without any issues?

you don't need an advancedsettings.xml for this. mysql has native support in the gui.

Set video sources like normal. There is no requirement that the mysql database be on the same server as the videos.

I have done the myphpadmin/mysql setup on my synology nas. What's next?

Can't figure out how to get this working. Tried two mysql setups on my local kodi install on a imac. Can not get kodi to create databases. The advancedsettings.xlm file in kodi has the correct iP adress to the mysql, but nothing happens. Want to get this running before trying to connect my mrmc boxes.

Running kodi 16.0
Mysql is on an synology nas running Maria dB/myphpadmin . Also tried a local mysql on the imac.

There is probably a connection issue, but everything is on a local machine and network.
