Taking into account option with external database (presumably on the server), it becomes logical to have also external library scanner which runs also on the sever, isn't it?
at least, this is setup I would be interested in for sure.
1. No user installed addons are supported, python or otherwise.
2. No, they really are not supported.
3. They are not coming back
4. Read from 1. again

Re: External DB and library scanner
Library scanning is handled by MrMC native. For the internal sqlite db or an external mysql db.
Given that, there is nothing that prevents an external app from handling library scanning for the external mysql db. Same as with running mysql under Kodi, we have just made it much easier to point to an external mysql db by moving the setup into the GUI.
