I noticed that Infuse can play HEVC without effort. Are they using a different codec?
MrMC can handle 720p HEVC. Same as Infuse, I highly doubt they can handle 1080p or 4k HEVC, the AppleTV4 just does not have the ponies to software decode them and at the current time, there is no public HEVC hardware decoder API for any Darwin platform.

I did try 720p HEVC, on MrMC stutters, on Infuse it doesn't.

And debuglog might tell us why, and if you can a portion of the file that you tried to play.

Thanks!

I had another look and the files were 1080, my bad. On another news the stutter stopped! I am not sure if something changed, but now it looks smooth.

Thank you

1080p h265 10bit video looks great on my iPad Air 2 (A8x) under MrMC and like a slideshow with no sound on ATV4. Will anything change with iOS 11 or moving to ATV5 is the only way out?

A8X has three CPU cores vs two in the A8, so there is a performance difference. The A8 in the ATV might have a higher clock, but never 50% more.

Fact that Infuse works better is a bit strange.

So, is anything going to change with IOS 11? maybe hardware decoding can help to improve the performance?

They've already said elsewhere that they'll use the new API in time. They're waiting for an xcode release, if I recall correctly.

With ATV4 it's not technically hardware decode but very streamlined software. ATV4k has hardware decode.

Ok, thanx for the info. And by the way, just tested the same FHD h265 file with Infuse pro: it’s working perfectly on ATV4 with NFS server!

Yep, I've tested the new Infuse and I'm pretty happy with the vast improvement Apple has introduce for HEVC. Looking forward to MrMC updated.
