Hi everyone,
first of all: nice kodi fork!
Some information of my setup:
apple tv 4k -> denon x1300w -> sony x90e
device: apple tv 4k, tvos 11.2.5
mrmc 3.4.0 2017-12-18
matching rate and hdr/sdr is on
So the problem occurs not with every .mkv file. According to mediainfo the rate is at 23.976. Other files with the same rate play smooth.
The problem: Some files have some kind of stutter. It's like its catching up frames (like forwarding fast just for one second, i dont know how to explain it better) every 3 to 5 seconds.

Try using AVFoundation as the decoder. That's your best bet for HDR content anyway.
Taking a look at the codec info during playback might give some clues as to the problem and will also confirm you're using AVF.

The file is sdr. I tried avfoundation, but then it stutters really hard.
What i could observe with videotoolbox on: The skip rate was quiet high at ~130.
fyi: Playing the file on libreelec on a raspberry pi 2 it is just fine and smooth.

mediainfo on test.mkv, plus would it be possible to get it for testing. It looks like a simple 1080p h264 and the AppleTV4K can handle that easy.

Re: Video catches up every 3-5 seconds
So I had this on a 1080p mkv, my ATV was set to HDR 24hz as I mainly watch movies. Changed the ATV to HDR 50hz and the 'stutter' disappeared. So I think that the match frame rate setting on the ATV does not push to MrMC ? or do you have to change a setting in MrMC to adjust ?

Yes, match frame rate works with MrMC. Turn it on in video playback settings.Sundew wrote: ↑30 Jan 2018, 21:37 So I had this on a 1080p mkv, my ATV was set to HDR 24hz as I mainly watch movies. Video -> Playback -> Adjust display refresh rate = Always
Video -> Acceleration -> Allow hardware acceleration - VideoToolbox = Checked
Video -> Acceleration -> - Use VideoToolBox for 4K HEVC HDR content = Unchecked

Re: Video catches up every 3-5 seconds
So to give you an example of the file, i cutted it with avidemux.
I checked if the behavior is the same as in the full length file and the result is:
The cutted example now plays flawlessly. The full length file still has the described behavior.
Why that? Can the file size be a thing?
Best,
