tvOS 11.3 coming

Post by cosmoxl »

Trying out the first beta.

It brings frame rate switching to the ATV4.

It seems they've also messed with AVF handling of HDR. This first beta is no longer giving a nice conversion from rec2020 to rec709 for my old TV via AVF. It's not the usual washed out look either, it's like everything has contrast to 10000. VTB still gives the washed out look.

yep, I think I'll roll back on the ATV4k. But, do you want to try to reveal frame rate switching for the ATV4 so I can test?

After we finish up with TestFlight for 3.4.1 we can enable display rate switching for AppleTV4.

Great to hear that, Davilla. When do you think that might be?

It's enabled in testflight already. He relented I guess. :)

tvOS 11.3 is released.

Though I don't use passthrough I know some here do. Unfortunately, it's not working in this release, at least for me.

Also, the HDR>SDR conversion that AVF would do is not working as it was in tvOS 11.2.5. That's a bummer for those of us without HDR screens.

I was hoping both of those would return in the release.

It really is a mystery this 11.3 beta series. It's like Apple have no idea what they're doing. Airplay 2....nope. Remove other features, sure. Who's in charge over there??

I am holding back from this update on my ATV4K since it does not bring anything new I need (gave away my ATV4).
Often it needs an ".01" a short time after the release to work properly!
I am updating my iPhone and iPads though.

EDIT: or did I miss anything important for ATV4K?
