Not 100% correct, ATV can do bitstreaming, but you're limited to the formats tvOS supports:

- 5.1 PCM, though looks like 7.1 is possible based on Apple specs
7.1 PCM was always present.

- DTS, DD, DD+ (E-AC3)

Apple has never supported DTS-HD and TrueHD in all those years. Looks like they didn't change their mind.

Oh btw... ATV4 (the current one) now supports HEVC / H.265. Guess tvOS 11 is the reason:

HEVC SDR up to 1080p, 30 fps, Main/Main 10 profile

So hardware decoding of 1080p is possible, though you're limited to 30 fps.

Hopefully MrMMC can make use of tvOS 11 hardware decoding soon.
What I meant was that the ATV4 and probably 4k won't bitstream DD+. Of course, I know they can bitstream DD and DTS.

I'm not so sure, to do Atmos, you need 192KHz sample rate and that was the missing bit to do DD+.

Once I get Xcode 9 up, then I'll be able to see what sample rates are supported.

Do you guys think, that the SoC (A10X) is fast enough to do the yadif 2x deinterlacing? Or maybe Apple integrated a good hardware deinterlacer in the new ATV?

yadif 2x deinterlacing should work already for SD interlaced content. 1080i HD, not a chance under ATV4, under ATV5, maybe, just have to wait until they become available to tell for sure.

Thanx for the reply :) considering the benchmarks of the A10X which in some benchmarks reaches Core i3 level, I'm hoping that those benchmark categories are the one needed for yadif 2x :)
