Can you confirm if this is correct Koying and is it possible to sideload if it can't be installed from play store on mibox?

Yes, not possible to install on rooted devices
No, not possible to sideload

Long version: Safenet is enabled on the play store: https://www.howtogeek.com/241012/safety ... d-devices/

I don't know how that works with "unapproved" devices that just have Google Play sideloaded (read Chinese boxes), but that can be mitigated by registering your device explicitly, anyway.

Thanks for the answer Koying, but my device is not rooted at all so it must be because it's an older android.

Is it the western mibox (the Android TV one) or the Asian one?

Don't know, then.
Google tells me it's supported

No, not possible to sideload
Is there a rationale for this?

I purchased and installed MrMc on my phone (Huawei P20 pro) which is rooted&unlocked, just to test it. Now I find that for some reason is not available for installation on my Shield (2015 pro) which is also rooted and unlocked.

I was able to sideload it, but I suspect that this would be a problem for future support?

Yes, we must track user installs for license accounting. If we post the apk for sideloading then we cannot provide our license holders with accurate accounting and will be in violation of the license terms and we risk getting pulled from the various App Stores.

As we do not do runtime accounting (privacy concerns), this is the only way to provide accurate install accounting.

Sorry for being unclear. I was not asking about sideloading. I was wondering about the no unlock/root policy.
