Considering MrMC

So with my Shield not being able to auto switch colorspace for HDR, its really made me start considering an Apple TV4K. Its just annoying to have to go into settings and change back and forth. So with that said, I do have some questions. Ive been a long time Kodi/XBMC user, so very familiar with the software. I don't really want to deal with jailbreaking or getting a dev account and sideloading with xcode to get Kodi, thus my only Apple condoned option is MrMC. I did load MrMC Lite on my iPhone to play with it a bit, and it works fairly well, bravo.

1. Currently, I have everything shared to Kodi clients via a MySQL database. I see MrMC should be compatible? How do I load advancedsettings.xml. I don't see the File Manager in MrMC. I know with Kodi on Xbox One they use the File Manager to get the file transferred to the Xbox One. How is this achieved in MrMC in the Apple world?

2. Plex Client. I do also have a Plex server on the same machine as my MySQL database for devices not compatible with Kodi (PS4, Blu Ray player, etc). I entered my credentials for Plex in MrMC and it loaded my Plex library right up. Very quick and very slick. My question is, for Direct Play (don't want to use any transcoding) does it use MrMCs video players or does it use Plex? I would assume all MrMC is doing is just getting library info from Plex and playing the file natively in its own player, right?

3. Still on Plex client, if I do a library update in MrMC will this prompt my Plex server to do a library update?

hi,

1. you can use file manager in MrMC to browse for SMB folder where you have advanced settings and copy it over

2. by default, we do not transcode anything. if you would like to enable transcoding its in the same submenu where you activated Plex account.

3. library update is not hooked in, plex has a way to monitor for newly added files and that works good... if you are missing that feature we can always look into adding it, but I have found that its not really needed

1. I didnt see the file manager (only have Lite version currently). Where is it located? Is it something not enabled in Lite? Is it only available in certain skins?

2. Ok, so I should assume if a file plays fine in Kodi with a MySQL database, it should work fine in MrMC from the Plex client?

3. Not absolutely necessary but would be nice. I have enabled Plex to auto update now, so it may be a moot point now. Will see how it goes.

1. in default, opacity skin highlight settings on home and go left(there is a little arrow indicating that there is a hidden menu), its there. only limitation of lite skin is number of listed items in library and xvid codec since we have pay for license for it.

2. it should be better :)

3. check how it works for you, others(including me) never had any issue with library update

You don't need advancedsettings.xml for MySQL. It's in Settings -> Services -> MySQL client.

One last question regarding the Plex client. Is it streaming over my local network to do this or is it uploading from the server to the internet and then downloading back to the client?

So I paid for MrMC on my Nvidia Shield, but I do also have a Fire Stick. Any way this purchase can also cover that or do I have to purchase virtually the same APK again since its a different store?

Nvidia shield is google play, fire stick is amazon... different stores means it’s a different purchase :(

And it’s not the same apk, just to be clear :)

So, with the Amber skin, is there any kind of configurability with the widgets? Id prefer it to show just recently added only and not in progress and if possible the movie info when highlighted on the widget. Is it possible to do that at all? I know in the Confluence skin it shows just recently added, but Amber is a bit more polished.
