[fixed] DTS broken in 2.4.0

Post by Holger » 31 Jul 2016, 19:51

DTS is broken in new version 2.4.0.

Broken means the AV Receiver will not activate DTS playback. Instead the Audiostream will be amplified as it is...

My configuration:

AFTV 1. gen latest FW
MrMC Version 2.4.0
Audio passthrough activated
DTS activated

Configuration was transfered from MrMC 2.3.0 which worked fine for me

Playback of Dolby Digital streams seems to be OK

Thanks

Holger

We need non-iec packed for dd, iec-packed for dts. we can’t do both right now. AE limilation. Working in progress.

It would be great if raw vs iec would be at stream level rather than sink, wouldn't it?
Oh, wait, I think someone anticipated the issue... ;)

For this issue I have the simple viewpoint of an user which is as follows:

v2.3.0

dolby passthrough OK
DTS passthrough OK

v2.4.0

dolby passthrough OK
DTS passthrough broken

If I understood right, a fix should be to use PCM instead of passthrough, but PCM seems to be 2 channels only - at least if I activate direct sound at my AVR there is only 2 channel playback (over HDMI, MrMC set to 5.1 channels) for any audioformat...

So my solution now is to use SPMC again instead of MrMC which is contradictory to the idea of MrMC which I wanted to support with my purchase.

The other alternative to use v2.3.0 is not possible with the AFTV Store...

Actually, IIRC, IEC work for both AC3 and DTS on AFTV, which was probably how it worked in 2.3.0.
https://github.com/MrMC/mrmc/commit/abd ... 208609L690 probably broke it.

some receivers may only accept 2 channel PCM? I don't know.

Yep, that altered behavior to favor non-IEC for proper sink handling. IEC packing works by chance as it requires audio path to be untouched by Android OS (no mixing, etc.) so it should be the fallback case. AE/17 added handling of both BUT it's all or none which is just silly. It's headed to a refactor so that IEC/non-IEC packing can be specified per audio format rather than per audio sink device.

Just to say, restoring dts passthrough is hot on the list for 2.4.x or 2.5.

I'm new to MrMC (just purchased yesterday) but have been using Kodi/XBMC for years. What is the current suggested workaround for the broken DTS issue? Is it possible to revert back to the previous MrMC version. Is there some setting you can use to have Dolby Digital videos work fine and DTS titles get output as stereo. For my family members the loud static for DTS videos is not a valid option, but DTS output as stereo temporarily is ok. BTW I am using an FTV V2 and a Pioneer VSX-1024-K AVR for this application.Thanks.
