Apple TV 4k -HW Acceleration LiveTV

Post by mm5533 »

Hi,

I‘ve tried MrMC with Tvheadend plugin and live tv. Whenever I start a HD program it‘s getting decoded on the CPU but not on HW. I‘ve activated HW Acceleration in the options but it‘s not working anyways. :(

Anybody knows why?

Thanks in advance!

The hardware on the apple tv doesn't handle mpeg2 or interlaced material (even if it's h264). So, that covers a lot of the broadcast TV standards.

Are you having problems?

Thanks for you answer!

Oh :/ Does it handle mpeg2 oder h264 if it‘s not interlanced?

I haven‘t problems, but isn‘t CPU usage on 200% not on it‘s limit?

Best regards

Hardware decode doesn't handle mpeg2 and it doesn't handle interlaced, no matter the codec. :) Of course, it handles progressive h264 and h265. However, MrMC is probably coded such that playback within the DVR extension will always use ffmpeg.

The deinterlacing is what pushes up the CPU usage but for the ATV4k the max is 400% (as you go by what MrMC reports) as it has 4 cores. On the older ATV4 200% would be the max because it has 2 cores.

Oh okay! Thanks the information!
4 cores? I thought I were 3?

Maybe I'm remembering wrong. I thought it had 2 fast and 2 "slow". But, I see other talk of 6 cores, and another site that does say 3 for the CPU - not counting the GPU. So, :?: :?

Ok, and what about the other 3 cores?
