When playing back imperfect files with stream errors recorded from dvb2 box playback hangs on known errors (plex app does the same btw).
Only after disabling hardware acceleation playback goes past the problematic position with ease (of course ther happens to be some pixelation).
Is there any downside disabling hw acceleration permanently besides not being able to play 4k hdr files?
Btw ipad air2 plays these files without hanging.

There is no downside to it, if you play 4k or some more demanding file it might need HW acceleration to run properly.
