Reference Media Location via Alias?

Post by jbennett » 23 Sep 2016, 13:48

I have a USB external 480 GB SSD that I sometimes have connected to the USB port on my Wi-Fi router for use as a network drive, and sometimes connect directly to my Fire TV's USB port. To avoid having to rebuild my library to update file paths every time I move it, I'd like to be able to set up an alias (say, "SSD") in the library, so I can remap all references to media on that device by simply changing the single path pointed to by that alias.

I don't *think* this is currently possible, as the customizable name for media sources seems to be purely cosmetic, and the actual physical path to each file is stored in the library.

Hopefully this description makes sense.

Thoughts?
