avfoundation is more efficient than videotoolbox. plus, avfoundation is the only way to get proper HDR color rendering given the existing GLES renderer.
Hello,
I don't have hdr tv, so, is it usefull to enable AVFoundation Decoder instead HEVC/HDR under VideoToolbox ?

Regards,
Dem

Maybe, right now, videotoolbox has better handling of 'quirky' h264 content. As we have mentioned before, AVFoundation is a work-in-progress and will get more and more improvements over time.

OK.
But All my movies are in h265 (bt709) , so It maybe preferable to use AVFoundation.
And what happened if I enable video toolbox and AVfoundation on sometime ?

It is a trickle down based on order in GUI.

VideoToolBox is 1st, if it fails, then falls through to AVFoundation. If that fails, it falls back to FFMpeg (sw decoder)

Downloading a subtitle (Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams S01E06) does not enable the subtitles (under Subtitles settings) and, thus, does not appear at all. The Subtitles are enabled under (Audio and Subtitle Settings).
The same process is, however, successful with Kodi Build 20171024.

EDIT: I deleted the above mentioned media file and re-added it and then it worked! Don't ask me about an explanation since this issue appeared also with other media files; very weird indeed.

Right now tvOS 11.2 beta is only for developers. Not sure if they'll go through a public beta stage too. Either way, you'll have to wait a bit.

release of tvOS 11.1 is still pending, but coming soon, together with Xcode 9.1, then tvOS 11.2 5 to 6 beta versions translates to 5-6 weeks until release together with Xcode 9.2; so we are looking at perhaps 6-7 weeks time horizon until frame rate switching is publicly available. Of course under the assumption that the apps are updated in parallel in the background.

I just noticed that on my Shield TV MrMC 3.2 has an option for "allow HEVC HDR content" in the video acceleration settings. The description mentions AVFoundation. :)
