Re: HEVC 10 Bit x265 Playback Buffering

1080p h265 10bit video looks great on my iPad Air 2 (A8x) under MrMC and like a slideshow with no sound on ATV4. Will anything change with iOS 11 or moving to ATV5 is the only way out? A8X has three CPU cores vs two in the A8, so there is a performance difference. The A8 in the ATV might have a hig...

Re: tvOS 11

I suspect that 1080p HEVC (higher bit rates) will not have an issue under tvOS11 on the ATV4. While FFMpeg does use neon, it is not the most optimal implementation. I would expect that Apple's sw implementation of HEVC would perform much better. Plus under videotoolbox, frames would be decoded dire...

Re: new appletv might be coming

My understanding is that out of Vudu, Netflix, Amazon at least some of them stream Atmos metadata via the DD+ stream. But, this requires bitstream which the ATV4 and ATV4k won't do. Not 100% correct, ATV can do bitstreaming, but you're limited to the formats tvOS supports: - 5.1 PCM, though looks l...

Re: new appletv might be coming

Behind in some, ahead in others. Still it is disappointing your support 4K HDR (DV & HDR10) via a HDMI 2.0a interface, but in terms of audio codecs: HE-AAC (V1), AAC (up to 320 Kbps), protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (up to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Apple Lossless, FLAC, AIFF, and WAV; AC-3 (Dolby ...

Re: H.265 on tvOS 11.0

judging by the WWDC , hw only on A9+ SoC’s, atv4 is an A8 we will need to setup separate dev rigs for tvOS 11 as thats heavy beta, but its something we will definitely look into. Just got a new 10.5" iPad. I wonder if it can play 1080p or even 4K HEVC in software. The A10X is a beast in terms of CP...

are you in testflight ?
Nope, not for a while.

One thing I noticed was that since the 3.0.5 update SMB I had libdsm disabled. I am pretty sure I was using libdsm before the update. I am bit confused, because AFAIK in the release notes you mentioned that the default would be libdsm.

Re: SMB and libdsm issues

Which QNAP and which fw version running on it. Both Amet and I have QNAPs and both flavors of smb seem fine. With both browse and zeroconfig. It also shows up on the ATV4, but of course you are using the same codebase. The QNAP NAS is running 4.3.3 with SMB rev 3 enabled. Looks like I fixed it by c...

Re: SMB and libdsm issues

The issue popped up again, either after MrMC 3.0.3 on both tvOS and ShieldTV...or it's related to the latest QNAP firmware, 4.3.3 if I'm not mistaken. I see timeout issues again and funny enough when use libdsm it keep asking for account settings. After you enter these, it just asks for them again. ...
